We are strongly against the selling of puppies in pet stores, and urge any prospective pet owner who considers purchasing a puppy from a pet store to seriously reconsider, and read the following:

10 Reasons Not to Buy a Puppy from a Pet Store written by Catherine M. Sheeter

In addition, we do not advocate shopping at pet stores that sell puppies,  having any type of business relationship with stores that sell puppies, or adding to the income of these businesses in any way!

We feel very strongly that any dog or puppy you bring home should come from a shelter, rescue group, or reputable breeder.  A reputable breeder will not only welcome you to visit their home and meet your prospective puppy's parents, but they will want to know just as much about you as you want to know about them!  They will also be willing to take the puppy back into their homes if something should cause you to be unable to care for that puppy, for the life of the animal.

Expect a rescue organization or shelter to 'interview' you about the home you will provide for your pet, and possibly require a 'home visit' to meet you and your family.  This should not offend you, it should reassure you that the group you are working with cares strongly about where they place their animals! Most rescue organizations will also require you to contact them if you are unable to keep the animal for any reason.  And if you are set on a specific breed of dog, please remember that there is a rescue group out there for just about every breed, with dogs and puppies of all ages waiting for homes!
